Teaching
Teaching
All four of my grandparents were either university professors or school teachers, so it’s no surprise I would end up in front of a whiteboard. I started my professional life teaching, and I enjoy coming back to the classroom, especially when I can share my audio and storytelling expertise with young people
University Teaching
Tutor/Lecturer
Audio Journalism, University of Melbourne
I have taught and mentored postgraduate students completing a Masters of Journalism course the basics of audio production: conducting interviews, preparing news packages and crafting audio features.
Audio Demonstrator
Podcasting, University of Sydney
Teaching remotely during Covid and in conjunction with a tutor who lectured on the theoretical elements, I demonstrated practical skills of audio production, such as recording, editing, scoring, mixing and troubleshooting.
Community Workshops
Youth Workshops
In collaboration with producers from All The Best, I helped to design and run three audio storytelling workshops for young people in the Banyule City area. The workshops covered the main ethical, creative and strategic considerations of making an audio story, and were designed to give participants the skills needed to create stories of their own.
Bold Source Workshops
Working with Brimbank Youth Services, All The Best ran two workshops for young writers from The Bold Source magazine, helping them to apply and adapt their writing skills to an audio medium. I focused on the use of sound design and music as narrative tools.
